| Built in the grand style of the finest alpine lodges and
finished with native New Zealand timber and stone, the Lodge is a sanctuary of
comfort. From the moment you arrive, you will experience the uniqueness of
Blanket Bay. The long driveway meanders across a green pasture where you will
find sheep grazing. The name, Blanket Bay, recalls the events a century ago
when pioneer farmers from Europe sheared their sheep on the shore of the bay
under rough shelters stitched together from blankets. |
|
|
| The setting is picture perfect - an alpine mountain lodge
framed by majestic mountains and crystal clear lake. World class dining, a
professionally equipped exercise facility, and a steam room and indoor spa
complement the extraordinary fishing, hiking, riding, and water sports
activities. Blanket Bay Lodge sets a new standard in New Zealand nature
experience. In the Great Room, vast couches and antique furniture invite guests
to sit and wind-down from the day's activities. In this Great Room, at the
heart of the Lodge, thirty-foot high bridge beam ceilings soar above. |
|
|
| The five lakeside rooms feature their own balcony or
terrace, super- kingsize bed, sitting area and armoire. The ensuite bathroom
comprises granite topped double vanities and separate shower and bathtub. The
Lodge Rooms are air-conditioned and have a choice of four music channels with
high fidelity sound. They are equipped with international direct dial
telephones and separate modem jacks to retrieve email in the privacy of your
room. |
|
|
| No expense has been spared to furnish Blanket Bay's
spacious suites to provide a height of luxury rarely found. |
|
|
| The chalets reflect New Zealand colonial architecture and
complement the main lodge with the use of schist stone and old steamer wharf
timber beams. Each chalet enjoys stunning views down the length of Lake
Wakatipu with the Richardson Mountain Range towering above. |
|
|
| The main dining room with lake-views and stone fireplace is
comfortable yet cozy. An additional lake view private dining room with beamed
ceiling and stone fireplace is also available for smaller groups of up to
thirty persons. Blanket Bay is pleased to have Jason Dell as our Executive
Chef. A former 'New Zealand Chef of Year' Jason describes his 'style' of food
as a contemporary display of fresh vibrant fare that excites the palate. |
|
|
| Enjoy a break from the world class fly fishing to enjoy
lunch accompanied by a glass of one of the excellent local wines. |
|
|
| The 18m x 6m outdoor, heated, lap pool captures the alpine
environment with glorious lake views to the south. |
|
|
| Experienced guides offer expert instruction and extensive
local knowledge and the horses trained with natural horsemanship combine to
make this adventure a magical one. Step into riding country second to none in
New Zealand. Riding territory includes the beach at the head of Lake Wakatipu,
the broad delta flats of the Dart and Rees rivers and across our very own Wyuna
Station stopping by the Scheelite Mines, riding through a high country sheep
station into the national park areas of Mount Aspiring and Fiordland. |
|
|
| The drive to Blanket Bay is magnificent. Only 35 minutes
from Queenstown, or 50 minutes from the aiport, the newly surfaced road offers
breathtaking views of hanging valleys, towering mountains, and Lake
Wakatipu. |
