|
| Built in 1902, Blantyre is a beautifully restored and
preserved Gothic fantasy - a faithful replica of a peaked and turreted
Elizabethan manor house. On more than 100 acres in the Berkshires, it is a
secluded world of its own. There is a heated pool and spa, croquet and tennis.
|
|
|
| The Main House is the centerpiece of the property and has 8
bedrooms - 5 magnificent ones, representing a by-gone era, and 3 charming rooms
with the same attention to detail that is the hallmark of Blantyre. All Main
House rooms are located on the second floor. |
|
|
| The Laurel Suite is a large room decorated with Mrs. Jane
Fitzpatrick's favourite wallpaper. The queen size bed sits in a large bay
window, facing south, leaving space for a comfortable sofa and 2 period chairs
by the fireplace. The design of the room is taken from the pink of the original
tiles around the fireplace. |
|
|
| The Blue Room is painted with a soft, almost heather blue
colour and has a king size bed, comfortable chairs in front of the fireplace
and period painted furniture. The curtains are made of Schumacher fabric by our
seamstress, Martha, and they accentuate the stature of this room. The room has
large windows overlooking the lawns, gardens and hills to the south. The
bathroom has a walk-in shower, soaking tub and marble sink. |
|
|
| The Bouquet Room has a pretty yellow and green flowered
wallpaper, a queen, four-poster bed with cream coloured bedding, overstuffed
cushions and rich textured window drapes. There is a desk, 2 armchairs and
footstool over a light moss coloured carpet. The bathroom has a tub and shower
combination and is decorated with another pretty floral wallpaper. |
|
|
| The Carriage House was one of the original buildings and is
located about 200 yards away from the Main House, close to the pool area. It
was converted in the 1960s and re-done in 1981 when the Fitzpatricks bought
Blantyre. Since then, the rooms have been extensively redecorated, using
beautiful wallpapers and fabrics and having the same care and attention to
detail that is the hallmark of Blantyre. |
|
|
| The new cottage, The Ice House, inherited its name from
this original outbuilding built in 1902. It can be let as a 2 bedroom cottage
or split into the Ice House Suite (1 bedroom) and Alexander's Room. The main
suite has 1,200 square feet of space with a second bedroom and shower/bath on
the lower level, with an outdoor patio. |
|
|
| In the Ice House Suite, there is a spacious bedroom, king
size bed, with a very large, ensuite bathroom incorporating a whirlpool tub,
walk-in shower and double sinks. In the large sitting room, there is a
fireplace, TV, VCR, DVD and stereo system, also a desk area. From the living
area, one can access a screened porch furnished with wicker furniture, with
access also from the bedroom balcony. |
|
|
| Dining at Blantyre is a very special event. Should you
visit us in the daytime, you would not find evidence of a restaurant, as we
keep the feeling of a private home, with fresh flowers on the center dining
room table. |
|
|
| With just 25 rooms and a variety of private meeting venues,
Blantyre is ideally suited for small, highly focused meetings. |
|
|
| Situated on 100 private acres, Blantyre offers guests a
setting amongst manicured lawns, gardens, woods and meadows where they can
experience the tranquility of a bygone era. |

| The paneled Main Hall with massive doors, Tudor fireplace,
and grand oak staircase opens to the bright and cheerful Music Room. There are
23 guest accommodations, and an attentive staff to see to your every wish. Most
of the bedrooms have four-poster beds, antique furnishings, and splendid
bathrooms. |
|
|
| The Paterson Suite is the room to stay in - an enormous
bedroom with king, four-poster bed and set with matching over-stuffed chairs
and sofas. The colour scheme is of a soft slate green with a dusty rose
coloured carpet. The view is dramatic - overlooking the lawns, gardens,
woodlands and hills. |
|
|
| The Cranwell Suite is another elegant room with a queen
size bed with beige and red tones, again, taking its cue from the fireplace
tiles. The sofa and chairs are set in the window, which faces north, looking
over the lawns and woodlands. The carpeting is a luscious thick Axminster
carpet, wall to wall throughout the bedroom and dressing room. In the dressing
room there is a dressing table and bench piled with pillows and the bathroom
boasts a wonderful vibrant wallpaper above the tiles, with a soaking bath and
separate walk-in shower. There is a small outdoor balcony off the dressing room
facing north. |
|
|
| The Corner Room is a striking room with a queen size bed
and with yellow and green wallpaper. Once again, the cue is taken from the
original yellow fireplace tiles. There are 2 large comfortable arm chairs with
a desk table, period furniture and a fireplace. The bathroom is large, with a
soaking tub, separate walk-in steam-shower room and marble sink. |
|
|
| The Ribbon Room features a lovely ribboned wallpaper, as
ribbons are Ann's big statement at Blantyre, and is completed with an inlaid
leather desk table, comfortable armchairs, a highboy and a king bed made up of
2 brass twin beds (very comfortable!) The bathroom has a shower and tub
combination with a soft beige wallpaper. |
|
|
| There are 7 rooms on the ground floor, with 4 facing south
(the pool side), and they have different combinations of bed sizes. Most have
shower-only bathrooms decorated with lovely accent tiles. All the bedrooms have
French sliding doors leading out onto landscaped patios lined with Hornbeam
trees. These areas are set with small chairs and tables. |
|
|
| In The Ice House suite, there is a kitchen, a large sitting
room with fireplace leading out to a screened porch. It faces southeast over
the meadows and hills. There is a large king sized bedroom and bathroom with
whirlpool tub, walk-in shower and double sinks. |
|
|
| The Cottage Queen was expanded in 1998 to 700 square feet
and is fully handicapped accessible. It has a very attractive sitting room and
fireplace (one whole wall has a Hudson Valley canvas), charming king sized
bedroom with fireplace. The patio is accessible from both rooms and looks east
over the meadows and hills. The bathroom is large with double sinks, whirlpool
tub and walk-in shower. |
|
|
| Late afternoon, the transformation begins for the
evening...fine table linens, Gorham sterling silver, antique glassware and
place settings are brought out. The harp is tuned while candles are lit, the
kitchen is a hive of activity as the freshest, finest ingredients are prepared
for your dining pleasure. |
|
|
| Blantyre makes the most beautiful setting for a wedding.
Built in 1902 as one of the "Berkshire Cottages," and immaculately restored in
1981, the property has 14 acres of manicured lawns and gardens, as well as
impressive reception rooms. |
