| Frégate Island's pure shores encircle a unique
destination: Frégate Island Private, a collection of sixteen luxury
villas, each one crafted to provide guests with the highest degree of privacy
and comfort, located on a remote tropical island in the Seychelles in the
middle of the Indian Ocean. |
| Seventy-three of these islands are founded upon coral,
while the rest, including Frégate, are granitic. It lies four degrees
south of the equator, and far, far away from the clatter of modern life:
approximately 1,000 miles south of India, 1,000 miles east of Africa, and 1,000
miles north-east of Madagascar. |
| To maintain Frégate Island's tranquility and beauty
without impacting the delicate balance of its ecosystem, Frégate Island
Private voluntarily restricts itself to just sixteen, 185-square-metre
(2,000-square-foot) villas. |
| Each villa was situated to make it feel like a part of the
surrounding landscape, and to ensure maximum privacy and seclusion for the
guests. Sliding glass walls and French doors that can be opened to the elements
help to further blur the line that separates inside from outside. |
| In the bathroom, the outdoor shower is fringed by
bougainvillea, hibiscus, and frangipani, and inside there is a double vanity,
an indoor shower, and a separate windowed bathtub. |
| Through the palm fronds one catches glimpses of distant
islands set in an emerald and tourquoise sea. |
| Take scuba diving lessons with the Frégate dive
master. Diving at Frégate is like slipping into a tropical aquarium.
Pristine reefs, spectacular walls, and intriguing caverns define the
surrounding tropical waters. Instruction and certification in scuba diving and
snorkeling is available at the PADI-certified dive center. To the north of
Frégate is Chimney Rocks, one of many popular diving locations where you
can explore the dazzling underwater world that encircles the island. |
| The open-air Pirates Bar serves light lunches and snacks.
| In keeping with the resorts commitment to providing
its guests with the finest quality while at the same time coexisting
successfully with the islands fragile wildlife, the resort chefs create
gourmet meals using produce grown hydroponically in their gardens. This ensures
a steady supply of tomatoes, eggplant, squash, cucumbers, peppers and other
vegetables. A small plantation yields home-grown pineapples, oranges,
breadfruit, bananas, and a wide variety of herbs and spices. Naturally,
there´s fresh fish in abundance. |
| You can mountain bike your way along trails that cross the
island, go Hobie Cat sailing, book a sunset cruise or simply stay at home and
have a massage on your deck. And dont worry there is a
baby-sitting service. |

| Frégate Island Private is the only resort on one of
the most unspoiled places on earth. The Republic of Seychelles is an
archipelago of 115 islands anchored in the western part of the Indian Ocean.
| The island is small, which makes it ideal for exploring on
foot. It covers a mere 740 acres (1.15 square miles, or 3 square kilometers).
The highest point is Mount Signal, which reaches a peak of 125 meters (410
feet). The year round temperature is 24-27° Celsius (75-86°
Fahrenheit), and because the Seychelles lies outside of the cyclone belt,
severe weather is highly unlikely. |
| Built from traditional materials, such as native mahogany
and African teak in a simple post-and-lintel style, the villas are topped off
with dense thatched roofs. Both the architecture and decor draw on Balinese and
Thai influences. Fourteen of the villas sit on top of the cliffs with panoramic
views over the Indian Ocean. Two more nestle in their own private tropical
gardens, and these are particularly good choices for families vacationing with
young children. |
| Despite their traditional appearance and supremely
laid-back ambiance, the villas come well equipped with DVD machines and CD
players. And, of course, if the fresh sea breezes aren't quite cool enough for
you, there's always air-conditioning. |
| Fifty feet below, the white coral sand glistens and the
waves crash. |
| The island is named after a bird (the Frégate bird,
famous for its six-foot wingspan, which can still be seen feeding off the
islands coast) so it´s fitting that it has become the last refuge
of one of the worlds rarest birds. Popular inhabitants of Frégate
also include the giant tortoise, the green turtle and the smaller hawksbill
turtle. Theres even a beetle, the tenebrionid beetle, that´s found
nowhere else in the world. |
| While many guests find that the relaxing atmosphere of
Frégate is perfect for doing nothing, there are plenty of activities for
the more energetic. The 47-foot luxury teak launch, Bemfujjo, is ideal for
excursions out to sea, or you can go game fishing on the 37-foot Little
Frégate Bird. Her sister vessel, the 43-foot motor yacht Frégate
Bird, is also available for charter. Bring home your catch of the day and one
of the chefs will serve it to you for dinner. |
| There's a fully equipped gym, a fresh water swimming pool,
an extensive library, and a children's game room. Golfers can head to the
course on nearby Praslin Island. |
| There are two main restaurants, one in Frégate
House and one in Plantation House, or you can enjoy your meals in the privacy
of your villa. |
| Spend an afternoon in the library: reading, meeting
friends, arranging to meet for a sundowner by the bar... |
| Frégate Island is easily reached via major European
gateways, including London, Frankfurt, Paris or Zurich. Air Seychelles, British
Airways, Air France, and Condor, a subsidiary of Lufthansa, fly between the
Continent and the Seychelles. From Europe the flying time is approximately 10
hours. Guests from the United States usually fly through one of these gateway
cities. Flights land at Mahé International Airport on the island of
Mahé, and from there guests travel to Frégate via a 20-minute
flight in a helicopter or small plane. Visas are not required, nor are
vaccinations. The Seychelles is free from tropical diseases. |
