Hastings House is a 16th century Manor House hotel secluded on a 25-acre estate on Salt Spring Island at the head of the Ganges Harbour in British Columbia, Canada.. All guest rooms have either a fireplace (some wood burning, some gas) or wood-stove. Some have deep-soaking tubs, separate showers, wet bars, private balconies, and ocean views. "The Manor House" pictured above has two gracious guest suites - Manor West, a two-room suite on the second floor, and Manor East, a ground-level two-room suite.

The Woodland Suite in "The Barn" has a spacious ground level queen bed-sitting room in soft pastels, that opens to a grassy meadow beside the sheep pastures. This quiet, light-filled retreat is warmed by an open fireplace, and country antiques.

The Hayloft Suite in "The Barn" is a large, upper level king bed-sitting room that features Canadian country decor and coverings, high ceilings and skylights, with a pair of cozy chairs in front of the wood burning stove.

Breakfast is served in the dining room. Dinner is a five course meal with a menu that changes daily. Guests have a choice of five entrees.

There are kayaks available, which are very stable and suited for both the first-time kayaker or the expert. The kayaks are made of light, durable plastic and can be safely pulled up on any of the island beaches in the area. There are sheltered waters and islands so numerous that you are never far from shore. Bald Eagles, Canada Geese, seals, otters, and many other forms of marine life can be observed closely. It is not uncommon for curious seals and otters to swim alongside your kayak. Guided tours are available on request. Full moon paddles and guided tours available.

The excellent cuisine can be credited to European trained Executive Chef Marcel Kauer, and to his selection of the freshest seafood, produce, and game available. Most herbs and produce are grown on Hastings House's own thirty acres. A speciality of the house is the uniquely flavorful Salt Spring Lamb.

Sail local and Gulf Island waters in a traditional sailing vessel. L,orenda, a 40-foot gaff-rigged yawl, is available for day sailing, overnight, or extended cruising.

Getting There: The closest airports are located at Victoria and Vancouver, British Columbia. Both are served by several International carriers and connector airlines. British Columbia Ferry Corporation, with terminals at Tsawwassen (near Vancouver) and Swartz Bay (near Victoria), provides car ferry service to Salt Spring Island. Three float plane services provide scheduled and charter float plane service between Vancouver or Seattle, and Ganges Harbour on Salt Spring Island. Guests arriving without an automobile can be met at the ferry terminals or float plane base on Salt Spring Island, by prior arrangement.

2004 Daily Double Rates: March 12 to November 13...Bed-sitting room (Hayloft, Sealoft & Woodland) CAD $470 (US $358). Two-room suites (Manor East & West & Meadow) CAD $ 545 (US $ 415). Deluxe suites (Post, Greenhouse, Hillside) CAD $630 (US $ 480). Premier Suites; Churchill Cottage, Somerset, Farm East, & Farm West) CAD $745 (US $ 568). Wake-up Hamper, Farm Fresh Breakfast and Afternoon Tea are included for single or double occupancy, with additional persons at CAD $85 (US $65) each per day. Gratuities are at your discretion. Three and five-course Gourmet Dinners available for CAD $75-95 (US$57-$72) per person. Guest suites are in five tastefully and restored and two newly constructed buildings. Each room's charming decor is enhanced by eiderdown comforters, oversized bath towels, fireplaces, minibars, CD players and many personal touches. Some have private balconies and ocean views, while others open to garden and meadow. TV/VCR's are available on request. Rates include: Wake-up Hamper, Full English Breakfast, and Afternoon Tea Service. The resort is closed from January 3- March 5. Minimum stays of two nights on weekends. As an adult retreat, we welcome room reservations for children over 16 years of age. However, we can accommodate small children in Churchill Cottage. Sorry, we cannot accommodate pets. Check in any time after 3:00 p.m. Check out time is 11:00 a.m. We will be happy to store baggage for early arrival or late departures. Complimentary transportation to and from ferry and float-plane docks is available. Prepayment of 50% will confirm a reservation. Your funds, less $25 per room booked, will be happily refunded if cancellation is made NOT LESS THAN 14 DAYS PRIOR to arrival. After that, no refund will be possible. A guest who checks out before the last day of the reservation will be required to pay for the days reserved if the room can not be re-rented. All major credit cards are accepted.
