Hotel Palumbo
{short description of image}
The hotel is named after Pasquale Palumbo, who, together with his Berne-born wife, opened the first Hotel Palumbo in Ravello in the middle of the 19th century (1875). The building that housed the hotel was called Episcopio because it had been an Episcopal dwelling in the distant past.

Other architectural and decorative elements were added in the 17th Century. The architecture of the building is in itself a mosaic of time.

The five different levels of the building do not correspond to modern-day stories, since the original structure was essentially vertical, but irregular.

From its early days, the hotel lodged illustrious guests from every corner of Europe. The Hotel still preserves reminiscences of the original medieval structure of the 12th Century Palazzo Confalone.

The sitting rooms throughout the hotel reflect the typical layout of an 18th-century country house.

Additional wings and a tower-like extra story contribute to the maze of unpredictable openings, corners and corridors. Built in the 12th Century, in a charming location on one of Ravello's little alleyways, the building protrudes onto the street with a tower-like structure forming an arch, dotted with tiny loopholes, which were used as lookouts in bygone days, when safety was rare and to be defended

The design of the exterior has been kept as close as possible to the original; orange and lemon trees, rose-beds and old vines about a 17th Century colonnade that frames marvelous views of the Amalfi Coast, the Gulf of Salerno and Punta Licosa.

Hotel Palumbo stands in one of Ravello's most enchanting spots, 350 meters above sea level, and offers a breath-taking view of the Amalfi Coast. From here, your gaze can wander out to the furthest point of the Gulf of Salerno, the Cilento Coast and the archaeological inland area of Paestum.
