| The Il San Pietro di Positano carved out of one of the most
impressive spurs of Amalfi's coastline is a complex reserved for the
international elite. |
| The Hotel is famous for the terraces projecting high above
the sea, finely furnished halls, and the tranquility of the individual and
spacious bedrooms, all of which have their own balcony and all with
spellbinding view of the sea. |
| No two rooms are alike as far as the decor is concerned -
but all boast cool tiled floors, sybaritic bathrooms, and beautiful
furnishings. |
| The hotel is entered by an elevator, which takes you down
through the rocks into the Hall - an airy room with terra-cotta floors designed
by the Stingo Brothers, well known Neapolitan ceramic experts. |
| The open air restaurant. |
| The hotel has justifiably been termed the architectural
wonder of Italy's Sorrentine Peninsula, hewn as it is out of the enormous
jagged cliffs that dominate the panoramic Amalfi Coast from the Lattari
mountains down to the beautiful Bay of Salerno. |
| Today the hotel is a myriad of 60 rooms cleverly tucked
into the cliffs in a series of nearly a dozen ledges, each one-room width, so
that every room is perfectly private, with its own balcony and magnificent
view. |

| This magic corner of Amalfi's coast was named San Pietro
after the Capel rising on its top. It is the ascent between the blue horizons
of the sea and the sky to the gates of Paradise. |
| The rooms and suites impress one even before entering them,
with marvelous decorations on the doors painted by the Germans Ursula Kluth and
Michele Theile. The hotel is filled with statues, local wood furnishings and
other decorations by Ugo Passalaqua of Positano. |
| The story of the creation of the Hotel San Pietro is a
story of one man's realization of a dream - a family saga with elements of
adventure, fantasy, and flair, plus a fair helping of commitment, dedication,
and tenacity. |
| Those who have spent time at the San Pietro have pleasant
memories of the people and the place. Recollections of luxurious awakenings in
the morning, of enchanted evenings at the hotel's open-air restaurant, of the
typical regional food, of the soft background music in the piano bar, and of
the romantic theme of candlelights, all come back to mind. |
| Vines trail along interior celing, bougainvillea cascades
from balconies and grape arbours spread their shade across terraces. |
| The beach was created in front of one of the most
fascinating caves of the promontory, with a sunbathing platform, bar on the
rocks, a tennis court surrounded by a rose garden and flower-filled terraces on
all slopes. |
