| Kingsbrae Arms, a Relais & Chateaux Country House Hotel
occupies a sprawling manor house built in 1897. It is located in the historic
resort town of St. Andrews, New Brunswick, on Canada's Atlantic Coast within
easy reach of major urban centers. |
|
|
| Kingsbrae Arms features three master suites and five guest
rooms all with fireplaces and ocean views. Downstairs, the public rooms feature
an eclectic collection of period furnishings. Among the many antiques, and art
objects are an early American weathervane, a pair of Chinese rosewood student
chairs, a Latin American Santos, and an English tall case clock |
|
|
| The spacious parlor has two crystal chandeliers, two marble
fireplaces, and a bay window giving out to the formal garden. A grand piano
sits on a raised nook in the corner. Plush brocade sofas are situated around
the two fireplaces. Coffee tables are piled with art books and periodicals for
all tastes. |
|
|
| Each guest room features one hand built king size
four-poster draped canopy bed, or two four-poster rice carved queen sized beds,
period furniture and artwork from the eighteenth and nineteenth century; state
of the art communications including direct dial telephones, voice mail, and
data ports for direct access to faxing and the Internet; cable television,
special soap and bath collections, chocolate truffles, fresh flowers, feather
and down comforters and pillows, waffle weave sauna robes, and layered window
treatments. |
|
|
| One of the many aspects that makes Kingsbrae Arms unique is
the dining experience. The dinner hour begins with cocktails in the early
evening. Dinner is served family style at seven in the dining room. As in any
private home, there is no menu. The menu changes daily and with the seasons.
|
|
|
| Next door to the parlor, the linen fold paneled library
features silk covered club chairs and a leather chesterfield in front of the
brick fireplace. Rough hewn ceiling beams date back to the origin of the house.

|
| The Town of St. Andrews is at the crossroads of British and
American history. It was settled by loyalists after the American Revolutionary
War, and the streets were named after the children of King George III. In 1897
Kingsbrae Arms was built as a family home by a sea captain involved in merchant
trade with Shanghai. Today, many of the rare Chinese porcelains, screens,
tables, jades, and other artifacts which the family imported can be seen at the
Charlotte County Historical Society Museum nearby. |

|
| New Brunswick is a natural garden spot on the globe. Its
geography has been likened to the rolling green countryside of Ireland. Deep,
verdant river valleys run north and south in the province, the water coursing
toward the Bay of Fundy and the Atlantic Ocean. The town of St. Andrews is
virtually a micro-climate. It is located at the tip of a peninsula of land
which juts into the Bay of Fundy, and enjoys the moderating trade winds of the
Gulf Stream in summer and winter. |
|
|
| The lounge is a quiet and comfortable area accented by the
large bay windows. |
|
|
| Kingsbrae Arms features five spacious guest rooms, The
Queen, The Prince of Wales, The Duke, The Duchess, and The Princess Royal, all
with fireplaces and sweeping views of town, gardens, and ocean. These rooms are
fully air-conditioned, with fingertip climate controls. They feature en suite
four piece marble appointed sumptuous bathrooms with oversized cast iron tubs
or six-foot whirlpools built for two. Showers have fingertip controlled
pressure and temperature balancing with combination pulsating/rainmaking shower
heads. |
|
|
| Kingsbrae Arms features three luxurious master bedroom
suites; The King Suite, The Garden Suite, and the Carriage House Suite, each
containing a separate sitting room with fireplace all situated with sweeping
views of gardens and ocean. |
|
|
| The kitchen at Kingsbrae Arms presents a wide variety of
specials for breakfast and dinner featuring the abundant bounty from land and
sea. Items include Bay of Fundy salmon, and a wide array of seafood fished from
the local area; prairie fed tenderloin of beef from Alberta; seasonal fruits
and vegetables; all prepared in a regional style with such signature
ingredients as maple syrup, cranberries, wild blueberries from nearby fields as
well as home grown herbs and vegetables. |
|
|
| The growing season of St. Andrews is more like that of New
England rather than the colder climates of the rest of Canada. Besides gardens,
nearby attractions include the eighteen hole Algonquin Golf Course; the
Roosevelt summer estate on Campobello Island; Covenhoven, home of the great
railroad tycoon, William Van Horne; The Atlantic Salmon Federation; Huntsman
Marine Laboratory & Aquarium; several local museums and historic archives;
and a wealth of adventure outings from whale watching and deep sea fishing to
ice skating and cross country skiing. |
|
|
| Kingsbrae Arms is located in the resort town of St. Andrews
by the Sea on the Bay of Fundy. It is a seaside town with the highest (27 feet)
tides in the world; a world class 27 acre (11 hectares) horticultural garden;
and an 18 hole pro golf course. The town is two hours drive past Bar Harbor,
Maine in the USA; two and a half hours from the international airport in
