Opened in February 1997, The Metropolitan is the first new hotel to open on Park Lane for 20 years, the creation of Christina Ong, owner of the award-winning Halkin Hotel off Hyde Park corner.
Chic and innovative interior design by Keith Hobbs and Linzi Coppick of United Designers and Georgio Armani-designed uniforms for all staff.
State of the art technology in all guest rooms include ISDN lines, computer modems, voice mail, personal fax, CD player, VCR on request, satellite and cable television, dual line telephones and ergonomically designed work stations. Additional features include; in-room safe, refrigerated personal bar, mobile phones on request, electronic "do not disturb sign", individually controlled air-conditioning, and more.
The bathroom in the Penthouse has breathtaking views over the rooftops to knightsbridge from the free-standing tub.
Ringed by window-lined walls and a serene Japanese rock garden, the Penthouse on "ten" offers total privacy and seclusion. At the touch of a button, diaphanous white blinds descend to shield against sunlight, while letting you enjoy the view.
Overlooking Hyde Park on the hotel's first floor, the restaurant is accessible from its own street entrance. Nobu seats 150, including 13 at its sushi bar for lunch and dinner.
The hotel provides a jogging map for those early morning runs in Hyde Park.

The Metropolitan is one of London's most contemporary hotel's where a refreshingly different attitude to service is provided by a young, enthusiastic staff.
There are 155 rooms including 18 suites overlooking Hyde Park and the Mayfair skyline.
The gentle curves of a Helen Yardley rug complement a sculptured pearwood screen which divides the lounge and bedroom area in the Penthouse.
Amenities include; bathrobes, hairdryer, and Kiehl's bathroom amenities.
They say that a table at Nobu is harder to come by than box seats at Wimbleton. At London's premier Japanese restaurant, celebrated Japanese Master Chef Nobu Matsuhisa serves up innovative Japanese cuisine.
In addition to a fully equipped gym, the hotel offers a wide range of massages and body therapy treatments including shiatsu, reflexology, and aromatherapy in either Treatment Rooms or in the guests' room.
Met Bar on Park Lane continues to be one of the happening places on the London scene. Influenced by the return of the classic martini cocktail, Met Bar features London's most extensive martini list with a menu of 26 varieties and an off-menu list of dozens more. Open to private members and hotel guests only from 6pm til 3am (10:30am Sundays).
