| The Adirondack Great Camps. Built along rugged shorelines
between forests and mountain lakes, in the late 1800's and the early part of
this century, they were sumptuous retreats for the very wealthy and their
friends. Constructed on ten acres of peninsula stretching into Upper Saranac
Lake, The Point was originally Camp Wonundra, the home of William Avery
Rockefeller. |

the ceiling on the wrap-around deck outside. The Boathouse has a panoramic view
and two separate sitting areas. One looks out at the lake; the other faces the
immense stone fire-place. Another alcove serves as a dressing room, and farther

active or relaxed as you like. The possibilities are as broad and grand as the
thirty-by-fifty-foot Great Hall in The Main Lodge. Eleven distinctive guest

custom-made beds, and spacious private bath. All contain an eclectic mixture of
antiques and Adirondack furniture, and all have huge fireplaces of chiseled
stone. |

trip. In the morning, a continental breakfast is delivered to your room, or a
cooked-to-order breakfast to your table in the Great Hall. Jackets and ties are
customary for all evenings, and black tie is suggested, but not required, on
Wednesday and Saturday evenings, to continue the tradition of elegant Great
Camp dining. |
|
|
| The Point's fleet of boats includes Adirondack guide boats,
canoes, small outboards, sailboard, sunfish, and a Master-craft ski boat, as
well as a classic mahogany Hackercraft and a 32-foot ELCO electric launch.

|
| Head off across snow-covered Upper Saranac Lake, or on
nearby groomed or wilderness trails. To capture the Olympic spirit, try the
trails at Mt. Van Hoevenberg outside Lake Placid. Downhill skiers head for the
Olympic slopes at Whiteface Mountain (50 minutes), or Big Tupper Mountain (25
minutes), which are among the best in the East. Whiteface's 3,216-foot vertical
drop - the highest in the East - draws world-class athletes. |
