| Richard Evanson, an American, purchased Turtle Island in
1972. He sought escape in the South Pacific, away from the stresses of the
Western Civilization. Fiji seemed about as far away as he could go. It's charm,
beauty, and the friendliness of its people was infectious, and Richard stayed.

| A chartered aircraft departs Nadi for the 30-minute flight
to Turtle island. The same plane that brings new visitors to the island picks
up departing guests. Your arrival and departure are memorable events that the
entire Turtle family wants to share. When it's your turn to leave, you'll find
everyone at the dock to bid you farewell. |
| During your stay at Turtle, your home will be one of only
14 "bures". Hand built by Fijian craftsman your two room beachside cottage
suite is situated on the beach of the incredible Blue Lagoon. Each offers all
of the comforts and serenity of a private, holiday home. |
| Grand Bures have a king size four poster bed, an extensive
dressing area, an outdoor shower and outdoor verandah with daybed. |
| Deluxe Bures have a queen size four poster bed, two full
baths, a rattan furnished sitting room and writing desk. All Bures are equipped
with hairdryers, Bose CD players, tea and coffee making facilities, toiletries,
irons and ironing boards. |
| The island is blessed with 14 naturally occurring palm
fringed beaches. Your time on Turtle is your own, whether you want to stroll
the beaches, wade in the turquoise waters, or just swing on a hammock
overlooking one of our white sand beaches and blue lagoons. |
| Activities include: horseback riding, mountain bike riding,
visits to native villages, champagne picnic lunches, hiking, hammocking. |
| Some beaches are adjacent to the living and dining areas
but most are secluded and private. Several are bounded on either end by high
cliffs, set in a cove or protected by an outcropping of volcanic rock. |
| A seaside moonlight dinner, a mountaintop cocktail party,
an intimate meal by lantern light on a private beach, the settings are as
memorable as the fresh, gourmet food. |
| After a few days, most guests realize the real pleasures
here go beyond what the eye can see. You'll easily surrender to the leisurely
flow of the friendly, sun filled Fijian days. |
| Columbia Pictures, in looking for a location to shoot "The
Blue Lagoon", surveyed a thousand possible sites before deciding to film the
movie entirely on Turtle Island. The movie was completed in 1980, starring
Brooke Shields. |
| A nature-lover's paradise, Turtle Island's web of hiking
paths meanders through grassy highlands with breath-taking views and numerous
groves of coconuts, bananas, mangos and papayas. |
| There are no luxury high rises, no tennis courts, no
airfields, no shopping malls. No televisions, no newspapers, no billboards.
Just unspoiled natural beauty and the gentle rhythm of the tides. |

| Turtle is a South Seas paradise of exotic trees, shrubs and
flowers - a garden of tropical fruits and vegetables. This is a Fiji Five Star
Resort offering accommodation to only 14 couples on a 500 acre private
island. |
| The relaxing pace on Turtle Island owes much to the
prepayment policy created to free each guest from all economic decisions. All
meals, drinks and activities, including scuba diving and deep-sea fishing are
included in your all-inclusive tarrif. The fee is all-inclusive for a very
important reason. Once you arrive, you are transported out of a money-oriented
society into another world. No bills to sign, no checks to cash, no monetary
considerations whatsoever. No concern as to who will pick up the tab or buy the
next round of drinks. A fundamental relaxation occurs. |
| The Grand Bures also feature a private "Hot Springs" jetted
spa tub. |
| Your separate sitting room features comfortable rattan
chairs and couches with a full wet bar and a refrigerator stocked with your
favorite beverages and an ice maker. Sunlight and sea breezes stream through
the many louvered windows and highlight the hand woven 21 foot vaulted
ceilings. |
| Turtle is ideal for divers. We have stunning virgin reefs
and superb visibility. There are no other divers in the water and there is no
current. There are hundreds of species of fish to be found only a 20-minute
boat ride from Turtle. In the deeper regions offshore, guests have spotted
dolphins, tuna, pilot whales, sailfish, marlin, manta rays, and many other
species of fish. |
| Fiji's weather is warm and pleasant without great extremes
of hot or cold. The temperature averages 87°F (30.5°C), November
through April and 84°F (28.5°C), May through October. |
| The 36 ft. dual hull catamaran, "Manta Ray", is Turtle
Island's well equipped and comfortable fishing boat. Trips to fish are
scheduled to go every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Fishing trips usually in
the early morning and last between 4-6 hours and are dependent on weather
conditions. The "Manta Ray" trolls the reefs located around Turtle Island and
neighboring islands. Catches include fish such as yellow fin tuna, trevally,
wahoo, Spanish mackerel, mahi mahi, barracuda, shark, skipjack tuna, rainbow
runner, and the occasional sailfish.. |
| Picnics are a favorite among Turtle Island guests. You may
reserve one of several private beaches or reserve the beach just outside of
your private "bure". Either way, you are sure to enjoy a sumptuous picnic
basket complete with your choice of wine, champagne or other favorite
beverage. |
| At day's end, many guests enjoy sitting under the huge
banyan tree, sharing "kava" (the ceremonial drink) and song with other guests
and staff. |
| The Blue Lagoon is as clear as new blown glass and offers
spectacular displays and diversions. Living coral reefs of blue, green and
yellow, called "fringing reefs" ring the island and are home to colorful
galaxies of fish, from lion to angel to buttterfly fish. Squid and octopi live
here too, as well as sea cucumbers rays and crabs. Don snorkel gear and go
eye-to-eye with a green or hawksbill turtle. |
